Abstract

The purpose of this study is to show how Discrimination towards minority in the Small Great Things novel. By focusing on how the discrimination can be experienced by the protagonist character and how the protagonist resists the discrimination itself. This study uses the theory of discrimination by Smith and Mackie (2002) as a main theory for the analysis. The method used is a qualitative approach for this study. This study found that Minority discrimination experienced by the Protagonist character in the novel depicted through: Social Role, Distrust, Social Rejection, and Power Domination. In this study also reveal how the protagonist character resist the discrimination, depicted through: Social Adaptation, Social Equality, Class Struggle, and Behavioral Mimicry.
