Abstract

This study is entitled Mental Progression and Regression in Marry Higgins Clark’s All Around the Town. The purposes of this study are to describe mental progression and regression and the impacts represented by the characters in All Around the Town novel by Mary Higgins Clark. The data were analysed based on theory from Carl Gustav Jung (1960) entitled Structure and Dynamic of the Psyche in order to identify mental progression and regression and the impacts. Thus, the qualitative method was used in conducting this study. The result of this study shows that mental progression and regression behaviour can be seen through creating rational thoughts, trying to achieve a better life, self-blaming and feeling hopeless. Besides, the impacts of mental progression and regression can be shown from the characteristic of the characters who becomes extrovert and introvert. Keywords: progression and regression, carl gustav jung, extrovert, introvert
