Abstract
This study aims at discovering the depictions and causes of human anxiety through the characters in Tracy Letts' August: Osage County Play. This study discusses the depiction of human anxiety through the characters of Barbara Fordham, Jean Fordham, Ivy Weston, and Violet Weston. The characters are described experiencing mistrust and misbehavior as the form of their anxiety. Erik Erikson’s theory in the concept of human anxiety was used from the book Childhood and Society to analyze the characters in the play August: Osage County by Tracy Letts. The writer used descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the study. The results of this study found that human anxiety is dominated by mistrust of the characters to the people around them caused by the existence of wrong parenting by their parents. Keywords: addiction, human anxiety, misbehavior, mistrust, wrong parenting.
