Abstract

This study is aimed to know the materials used in teaching reading, to describe the activity used in teaching reading using storytelling and to find out the result of teacing reading using storytelling at SMP Strada Bhakti Utama-Pesanggrahan. The study uses qualitative approach. The qualitative data were obtained by observing the teaching and learning process during the implementation of storytelling, interviewing the English teacher and giving the questionnaires to the students. The materials used in teaching reading were compiled by the teacher that are supported by English textbook and internet. The reading activities is devided into three parts, namely; Pre-reading, While-reading and Post-reading and the result was running well. From the result of the questionnaires, it revealed that most students enjoyed learning reading using storytelling. It can be concluded that the implementation of storytelling in teaching reading is successful. The students can understand the meanings of the texts increase their vocabulay, improve their pronunciation and be more active during the learning process.
