Abstract
This study entitled “Tribal Stigma Depicted in The Cloud Hunters in The Novel by Alex Shearer”, focuses on how stigma and the impact that occurs due to stigma from the object of research in the form of fantasy fiction literary works, namely the novel Cloud Hunter by Alex Shearer. This novel describes the life of Cloud Hunters tribe who tribes of water hunter with tribal marking in the form of scars on the face that are at the bottom of the eyes to the mouth and tattoos on some parts of the body with a gypsy – style of dressing. These signs create a tribal stigma for them. The study used the main theory of stigma proposed by Erving Goffman (1963). The method used to analyze is qualitative descriptive analysis. In this study, it was found that the tribal stigma received by characters in the form of cloud hunter tribe members can be in the form of Stigma Symbol, Negative Prejudice, Ill- Famed, and Deviance. Furthermore, this study found that the stigma experienced can cause diverse responses that have an impact on the existence and crisis of trust of novel characters in the form of Inferiority, Unsure of Reception, An Outcast, and Shame.
